DATES 

Have a question about expiration dates on some jars of Melem? According to the FDA, expiration dates are meaningless and are not required. According to the developer and inventor,  Melem is at full strength at least 5 to 7 years after manufacture and even then it is still effective after that. The currrent manufacturer certifies its shelf life is 4 years after manufacture. Currently all products of the large size Melem being sold at retail and on the web were manufactured in 2006. The testing done by the manufacturer certifies the product is good until February 2011. All small size Melem has been manufactured in either 2008 and 2009 and expiration dates are on the cans. See the expiration date page for the certifications of the 2006 batch Melem.

Certification of the correct expiration date of these batches is contained in theexpiration date certificates page. See  the "rules and regulation" pages of this web site for more information. We are correcting the inaccurate expiration date applied by the manufacturer on the outer boxes, but not on the inner jars. If you have received a jar without its outer box, rest assured, the expiration date is 2011, not 2008 as wrongly appears on some jars.

All Melem imported to the US is warehoused in carefully climate controlled facilities.

Shipping, handling and web site updates moved to Winter Park, Colorado

If you have been using the www.melemusa.com web site to order on line, you will notice no change in what you have done in the past...except that your order will be shipped from Copy and Ship from Winter Park, Colorado in stead of Austin, TX.  Effective March 19, 2008,  Our number for customer service, telephone orders, and all other Melem matters has been changed to 1 970 372 6514.  However, we have added some bells and whistles and made some adminstrative and location changes and this article contains some explanations and new services. You also may wonder how you got directed to this site. If you clicked the link to order by check, mail, or fax...you landed here.

Beginning in January 2008, shipping, handling and web site update functions have been moved to Winter Park Colorado from Austin, Texas. In 2005, Melem USA began on line sales from our Austin office and the web site, www.melemusa.com was designed and administered from there, as well as shipping and handling. The move to the corporate home office of Melem USA LLC in Winter Park was made to allow more flexibility in web site updating and to provide more efficiency in shipping.

All import and distribution will continue to be administered from Winter Park.

In addition, all warehousing and customer service, and telephone order service centers are  now located in the Winter Park, Colorado headquarters. Before January, warehousing and customer service were housed in two locations, Austin and Winter Park . Telephone orders were usually handled in Austin; they will now be handled in Winter Park.

Melem USA established a working relationship with Copy and Ship in Winter Park. Your on line order is now forwarded to them directly for quick shipping turnaround.  Orders to be taken by fax and mail will also be directed to Copy and Ship.

The administration of the www.melemusa.com web site will still be handled by the Austin office.

The administration of this web site, www.melemorder.com will be located in our Winter Park office. The reason for this is that it is easier to update information with the server we use in Colorado.

Fax and mail using a credit cards

Melem can now be ordered by fax and mail payable by credit card. The forms to order can be downloaded in this web site (see page tabs to your right). Make sure you fax and mail your orders to  Copy and Ship. Address and fax number are on the appropriate forms. Fax instructions are included on the forms.

Mail order payable with a personal check

We do not do C.O.D. orders but we do accept personal checks payable in advance. Enclose your check with the form provided on this web site and mail it to Copy and Ship.

Telephone orders

We will be glad to take your order payable by credit card over the telephone but we do not have operators standing by. Call our toll free number, leave your name, telephone number, your request, the time zone you are in and a time convenient for us to call you back to take the information details. You can also leave your email address if you prefer that response. See the page tab to your right and use the 'contact us' page, as well. All toll free call messages are automatically forwarded to our Winter Park office.

Frequently asked questions..and answers

Q: My Melem has expired. Can I still use it?

A: See above and the rules and regulations pages of this site.

Q: My Melem melted/froze. Is it still OK?

A: Yes...just the texture is not great. If it melts, put it somewhere at room temperature and it will resume its original texture. If it freezes, it will become granular,yet still be effective

Q: Where is my order?

Q: I have an allergy to lanolin and I notice that Melem contains lanolin. Should I use it?

A: Probably not, but you can see if the amount of lanolin in Melem is enough to give you a reaction. Put a little on your skin and test it. We in the US or in Croatia have never heard of any adverse effects or complaints about  Melem and it has been sold in Europe for years.

Q: It's greasy. Should it be?

A. You are either using too much, it has been in the heat and is slightly melted, or your jar is older than 7 years. Apply in thin layers. You don't need to butter it on you. Household hint: don't run it through the washing machine/dryer with your clothes. Check your pockets first.

Q. I have been using prescription drugs on my skin problems. Are they safe?

A. If you are using Elidel and Protopic, a warning was issued by the FDA regarding possible links to cancer and possible impacts on children's immune systems and increase in upper respiratory infections. See the Rules and Regulations pages of this site for the exact FDA warnings.  Melem contains no drugs, steroids, or any ingredients identified as harmful to anyone, including 2 year olds and under.

History

The history of Melem can be found in our www.Melemusa.com website pages. Click on company at the bottom of the home page.  Melem's history in the US and sales to the general US market, aside from a few ethnic distributors/importers, began in 2003. The web site www.Melemusa.com was established in 2005. The web site you are viewing, www.melemorder.com was begun in December 2007 because of the ease of updating and adding new information and services immediately and up to date.

Melem facts

We have been asked about the origin of the word Melem. In English it has a very soothing sound. In Croatian and Serbian, it is the generic name for "balm". Our Melem does not contain the chemical melem or melamine.

 Our product, the original Melem manufactured in Zagreb, was marketed under the name of Zagrebacka Melem (Zagreb Melem in English). It is now copyrighted under the name of Melem and sold in  Europe and North America under that name. If it is sold  by the import and distribution company Melem USA, then you know it is the original Melem because Melem USA has the exclusive right to market the Croatian made Melem in North America and the Caribbean. With the break up of the old Yugoslavia, of which Croatia was a part, unauthorized imitators have sprung up, using the name and attempting to copy the formula. Melem was an established brand in the old Yugoslavia and a commonly used product. We cannot vouch for the safety, standards and formula of our imitators . Our manufacturer, Neva  in Zagreb, Croatia is taking legal action against the imitators when ever possible, but is handicapped by the lack of copyright, consumer protection laws, and existence and enforcement of commercial laws, rules and regulations in other parts of the Balkans. It is buyer beware when purchasing products made by our imitators.

Otherwise, we believe imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.    

What are the most common uses for Melem

You probably bought Melem for one purpose, but you might find that it is effective for other needs you may have.
